Wal-Mart recently filed its annual 10-K report with the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission. This is the financial document is used to build Wal-Mart’s annual report which will be available soon. A Few Notes:
· "Wal-Mart" (hyphenated) refers the corporation while "Walmart" (one word) refers to the U.S. operating segment excluding Sam’s Club.
· Grocery now represents 49% of sales reported by Walmart.
· Curiously, the new Marketside banner is not mentioned in Wal-Mart’s 10-K report.
· Although total corporate sales growth declined to +7.2% vs. year ago, Walmart growth in the U.S. accelerated for some key measures. Growth rates increased for (1) total U.S. sales, (2) same-store sales, (3) average sales-per-store, and (4) average sales-per-sqft.
